About the Porsche 911
GT3 Lightweight Bucket Seats
The Porsche 911 GT3 Lightweight Bucket Seats — referred to within the Porsche community as LWB seats — represent the factory’s commitment to carrying motorsport engineering directly into road-going GT3 models. Available across the 997, 991, 991.2, and 992 generations, the LWB seat has been continuously refined and remains one of the most sought-after OEM seat upgrades in the sports car world.
The seat shell is constructed from carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP), finished in Porsche’s signature high-gloss carbon-weave. The deeply sculpted fixed-back design eliminates unnecessary mass while the high lateral bolsters — trimmed in grip-enhancing Alcantara — keep the driver securely positioned under track-level cornering forces. An integrated thorax side airbag and three-stage seat heater ensure complete road usability alongside the track-focused construction.
For the 2025 992.2 GT3, Porsche introduced a new folding backrest function, allowing improved access to the cargo area and, in Touring specification, the newly available rear seats. This makes the latest iteration the most versatile LWB seat yet — without any compromise to the core lightweight brief.
Why the GT3 LWB Seat is So Sought After
Genuine Weight Saving
The CFRP shell delivers a meaningful reduction in unsprung interior mass compared to the standard 18-way adaptive sports seat — contributing directly to the GT3’s exceptional balance and driver feel.
Track-Ready Support
Deep lateral bolsters and a fixed-back shell hold the driver firmly in place during high-G manoeuvres. The headrest pad section can be removed entirely when driving with a helmet on circuit.
OEM Safety Compliance
Integrated thorax airbag, seat occupancy sensor, and factory wiring connectors ensure these seats meet Porsche’s full road-use safety requirements — unlike many aftermarket alternatives.
Cross-Generation Fitment
The LWB seat architecture spans the 997, 991, and 992 GT3 generations, making genuine OEM examples a highly desirable upgrade for owners of earlier GT3 models seeking the full factory specification
